Kitchen Remodeling

Remodeling your kitchen is a massive project. A well thought out and detailed plan is a must with considering kitchen re-design. There are three basic kitchen functions to consider when re-designing your kitchen: storage, preparation and clean-up.

Following is a basic guideline for remodeling your kitchen. For more detailed remodeling tips, browse through our articles below:-

  1. Kitchen Layout
Three standard layouts for kitchen design are, U-Shaped, L-Shaped and Gallery (benches parallel). Each of these layouts work triangularly, with the refrigerator, stove and sink being the points.

  2. Mulitple Workcenters
Multiple work centers or work stations are common practice for designers to include, allowing more than one person to work efficiently without intruding on other people's work space. Adding kitchen islands are the most common way to include multiple work stations in the kitchen.

  3. Finish Materials
Choosing the right finish materials is another critical part of the kitchen remodeling process. Five primary categories are:-

    1. Cabinets - Two basic styles exist, European (frameless) and face-framed.
    2. Countertops - Materials range from very durable and expensive materials such as granite to less expensive styles, like ceramic tile or laminate.
    3. Flooring - Vinyl, Ceramic Tile and Wood are all possible materials.
    4. Kitchen Sinks - Mounting styles are either top-mount or undermount with a combination of sizes and features: single-bowl, double-bowl, deep or shallow.
    5. Appliances - The main appliance choice involves built-in or free-standing styles. Also, you'll choose between side-by-side refrigerators or units with top or bottom mounted freezers.
